Panorama (again).......

Here's the edited version of the previous panorama with adjusted horizon...
a straight horizon does gives the panorama a brand new feeling and i can tell you that the horizon is the most important thing in taking panorama pictures...

Here's the other panorama at the same place which is the Mengkuang Dam at Bukit Mertajam in Penang - my hometown.
Just from a different point of view.
What do you think about it?
p/s: kind of addicted to panoramas recently...^^

The pictures shown above is not the whole pictures as it is too wide and has been automatically chopped off at the right hand side.
You can either click on the pictures to view the whole completely shown panoramas or alternatively you can always go to my flickr to view them...
Thanks......^^

My first panorama shot at the Tasik Mengkuang

I know that this is not a very good panorama shot as the colors are a bit weird at the center there, the horizon is not straight enough, etc......
But its just my first try and i already noted my mistakes and will be more careful next time...
Thanks for stopping by...... ^^

p/s:the photo above doesn't show the entire photo, you can either click on the photo or go to my flickr to view the entire photo...

Photokina 2008

The long waited Photokina has finally came... Previously before the 2 big DSLR competitors which is Canon and Nikon announced their new product, i can bet that every people has been waiting for this Photokina in order to know what sort of DSLR with newer technology they will come out with. But due to the recently announced new product by both the brand, some people suddenly have no interest in the coming Photokina. I wonder what's the reasons...

Oh ya, nearly forgot... For those who doesn't have a single idea of what Photokina is, I don't mind explaining to you.

The Photokina is the world's biggest trade fair for the photographic and imaging industries. It is held in September every 2 years at the Cologne Trade Fair, Germany. Many photographic and imaging companies introduce important imaging products at photokina, or at the Photo Marketing Association Annual Convention and Trade Show (PMA), which is held in February or March of every year.

So, my main point for writing this post is to briefly tell you what has been announced in this Photokina fair.

First of all, I would like to say about the Canon. As all of you know, Canon recently just announced their new DSLR beast which is the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and the Canon EOS 50D. Besides, Canon also announced their 4 new lenses which is the Canon EF 24mm F1.4L, Canon EF-S 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 IS and not forgeting their monster lenses which is the Canon EF 800mm F5.6L and the Canon EF 200mm F2L. Apart from the DSLR and lenses, Canon also announced a few prosumer camera which is the Powershot SX10 IS, the Powershot SX1 IS, the Powershot G10 and many other more which is not very outstanding(for me at least).

As for the Nikon, there is not much to say as they only announced 1 DSLR which is the Nikon D90. But it does attracted a big crowd because people are so interested in the movie mode that this Nikon D90 can do. No doubt that Nikon still has his supporters. ^^ Besides the Nikon D90, Nikon also announced thier new lens which is the Nikkor 18-1.5mm with VR to pair with the Nikon D90 as a kit lens. Other than the big type DSLR, Nikon also announced a new prosumer camera. Starting at the top with the new flagship, the Coolpix P6000 builds on the formula established with the P5000 / P5100 adding even more pixels (now 13.5 million). It also adds built-in GPS and a nice 28-112 mm zoom range but it's the raw output, now supported by Adobe Camera Raw, that caught my eyes.

As for the Sony, they announced their new flagship fullframe DSLR which is the 24.6 MP Alpha-900. The new SAL 16-35mm ZA is also here, expanding the range of lenses with the classy, minimalist look of the Carl Zeiss ZA lenses. But it's the new full-frame A900 that is catching everyone's imagination.

There's one more thing i wanted to let you guys know is that the Sigma has just announced their new lens which is the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG. This lens is quite similar to the older version but this newer version now comes with HSM and newer design. With the HSM, this lens sure is a gem even though for some pro photographers out there. Too bad for me that i just bought the older version last few weeks.

That's all from me, and those brand that i didn't mentioned above, please forgive me as i'm not really interested in those brands. Anyway, please stay tune to my blog for any news about the photography word and keep checking back for new photos from me.

p/s: All the pictures above are taken from www.dpreview.com and they are for educational purpose and not for advertising purpose. Hope they won't sue me for taking their pictures.

Have a nice day...^^

Canon 50D and 5D Mark II......

I know it has been some time since Canon announced their new DSLR which is the Canon 50D and the Canon 5D Mark II. But i still want to talk about it here because they are such a great performance DSLR...

Canon 50D
Canon finally announced the 40D's successor which is the Canon 50D... The new Canon 50D mainly is a new 15megapixel sensor wrapped inside a 40D's body, using DIGIC4 instead of DIGIC3 in 40D, a brand new 920,000 pixel 3.0" inch TFT LCD and the most outstanding part is the 50D has a micro AF adjustment up to 20 lenses (meaning no need to send both body and lenses to Canon to calibrate the front/back focusing problems).
Besides, the new Canon 50D is able to boost the ISO up to 6400 and 12800 compared to the 40D which only can boost up to ISO3200. This is quite a major breakthrough for the DSLR world because even the previous 1Ds series can't do that.

After reading through the preview on www.dpreview.com, i found out that the picture produced by this 50D is slightly better than my current camera which is the Canon 40D besides the ISO6400 and ISO12800 coz 40D doesn't have these functions... So, for those 40D users out there, please don't feel sad that Canon came out with the 50D coz our 40D is still a very superb camera and is still can produce really nice pictures if compared to other brands of DSLR in the same range. Cheers for the Canon 40D...^^

Now, its time for the really really long waited Canon fullframe DSLR 5D's replacement... It has been 3years since Canon announced their first midrange fullframe DSLR which is the 5D... Now the time has came for a "Destinated Evolution" as mentioned by Canon themselves...

Canon 5D Mark II
Ever since Nikon came out with their first midrange fullframe DSlR which is the Nikon D700, everyone is already expecting Canon to come out with a new fullframe DSLR to fight with Nikon. And now the dream finally came true that the 5D Mark II is announced.

The features of the new 5D Mark II includes:
  • 21 megapixel CMOS sensor (very similar to the sensor in the EOS-1Ds Mark III)
  • Sensor dust reduction by vibration of filter
  • ISO 100 - 6400 calibrated range, ISO 50 - 25600 expansion (1Ds Mark III & 5D max ISO 3200)
  • Auto ISO (100 - 3200) in all modes except manual
  • 3.9 frames per second continuous shooting
  • DIGIC 4 processor, new menus / interface as per the EOS 50D
  • Image processing features:
    • Highlight tone priority
    • Auto lighting optimizer (4 levels)
    • High ISO noise reduction (4 levels)
    • Lens peripheral illumination correction (vignetting correction)
  • RAW and SRAW1 (10 MP) / SRAW2 (5 MP)
  • RAW / JPEG selection made separately
  • Permanent display of ISO on both top plate and viewfinder displays
  • AF microadjustment (up to 20 lenses individually)
  • Three custom modes on command dial, Creative Auto mode
  • Image copyright metadata support
  • 98% coverage viewfinder (0.71x magnification)
  • 3.0" 920,000 dot LCD monitor with 'Clear View' cover / coatings, 170° viewing angle
  • Automatic LCD brightness adjustment (ambient light sensor)
  • Live view with three mode auto-focus (including face detection)
  • No mirror-flip for exposures in Live View if contrast detect AF selected
  • Movie recording in live view (1080p H.264 up to 12 minutes, VGA H.264 up to 24 mins per clip)
  • Two mode silent shooting (in live view)
  • New jump options in play mode
  • HDMI and standard composite (AV) video out
  • Full audio support: built-in mic and speaker, mic-in socket, audio-out over AV (although not HDMI)
  • IrPort (supports IR remote shutter release using optional RC1 / RC5 controllers)
  • UDMA CompactFlash support
  • New 1800 mAh battery with improved battery information / logging
  • New optional WFT-E4 WiFi / LAN / USB vertical grip
  • Water resistance: 10 mm rain in 3 minutes
21megapixel!!! Its the same as the 1Ds Mark III (the most expensive DSLR)... This is really a beast for me... Another interesting part is that the ISO performance is really WOW!!! Normal ISO range will be between 100-6400 and is exandable from ISO 50-25600... YES, ITS ISO25600!!! Can you believe that? Some people even gave comment that the new Canon now shoot in NO LIGHT condition (just being humourous...^^)

One more thing is that the 5D Mark II can now record video in FULL HD MODE... Video recording in a DSLR isn't that just COOL? Now not only Nikon can record video with DSLR, Canon can do that too... Cheers for Canon...^^

As for the imge produced by this Canon beast i don't need to say much because even the old Canon 5D which is 3 years older than my 40D can produce image far more better than my 40D...
So, for the replacement sure salute one right? :P
________________________________________________________

i think it is enough for both the very simple review on both cameras, if you guys want more info on them, you can go to www.dpreview.com to look at their full preview.
(The informations and the pictures i put up are all from DPreview)

After all, i'm still in love with my Canon 40D and won't think that i'll change to newer system any time near the future... But i do hope that one day in the future i can upgrade my gears to fullframe as the power of fullframe is really unpredictable...

that's it for now and i better proceed to study for my final exam as they are coming in another 2weeks time...

Will update my blog more often and post more photos after my final exams... Please stay tune to my blog... :P

study mode ON...

Welcome to Chang's blog......

First of all, i would like to give a big welcome to all of you who are viewing my blog now......
Thanks for stopping by my blog......^^

i've always wanted to create a blog of myself ever since i got my first ever DSLR which is the Nikon D40 but the problem was that i could not manage my time quite well so this "creating blog" project have been delayed for almost a year until now. Now, i finally made up my mind to create this blog no matter how busy i am with my daily life as a uni student... The main reason for me to create this blog is to write down my photographic journey which i'm about to embark on. So, this blog will serve as a public dairy of my photographic works......

Now, a little bit of myself.

My name is Tan Chun Chang and i'm currently 19 years old (born in 1989). i'm currently studying in Multimedia University Cyberjaya Campus taking Engineering Majoring in Telecommunications. i've been into photography for about 3-4 years now. This photography journey began back when i was still in my secondary school when i got my first SLR as a present from my dad which is a photography enthusiast also. The first SLR i got is the Yashica Super 2000 film camera which my dad bought before i was born. i used that Yashica for about 2 years and then finally came into digital and my first digital SLR was the Nikon D40 which i bought it 1.5 years back. After nearly 1 year using it, i found that it couldn't satisfy my needs so i sold it off. After that, i bought the Canon EOS 40D which i'm currently still using it. Do take note that i'm still nowhere near a proper photographer as i'm still a newbie and there's still a lot of things for me to learn. :P

For the time being, i hope that those moments that i've captured using my camera will put a smile on peoples' faces when they look at them. And when the time that everyone make viewing my blog to see my photos a must do action in everyday life comes - i know that i've succeded in my photographic journey. Wonder when will the time comes...... (Laughing at myself...^^)

Last but not least, hopefully i can meet with more photographers out there in the world and share my views through my viewfinder with their views through their viewfinders together and made the photography world a better place.

Cheers!
